2009 was a banner year again for marijuana crop seizures. The Campaign Against Marijuana Planting seized 4.4 million plants in 2009, up from 2.9 million plants in 2008, according to state Department of Justice figures released today, which is almost a 50% increase.
The rise in seizures is attributed to better erradication strategies and locating larger pot gardens. Increased helicopter use enables the location of the larger gardens so they can be erradicated.

While I'm sure that some of this was related to Mexican drug gang activity, most of it was not. And as such, "teh Federales" have done the gangs a big favor by greatly reducing the available supply in the state and hence keeping pricess artificially inflated. Of course, the cops like those higher pricess too so they can claim that they confiscated a higher value crop.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, up in Oregon the price of quality kindbud has been constantly decreasing for years.
The cops play whack-a-mole while state budgets are busted and people are demanding change.
Not sure where the extra esses came from ... prices, not pricess. (Sounds like Gollum talk.)
ReplyDeleteIf only legitimate farmers would be allowed to grow hemp and marijuana then maybe these gangs would stop turning a pretty dime tearing up our forests.
ReplyDeleteStill great news, guess this means marijuana availability will drop sharply...
P.S. Also heard the AMA is going to come out in favor of medical marijuana. But I guess they're just the countries largest group of physicians, so what do they know?
you do realize that marijuana seizures only intercept about 2% of all drugs? These "massive busts" are similar to walmart having a couple dvd's stolen from them.
